Could Ovarian Cysts cause the same symptoms as pregnancy?

If you haven't read my other questions, I thought I was pregnant.  I had 3 positive HPTs and about 5 negative HPTs. I went to the doctor and had a blood test done, the results were negative.. which IS very possible, and I also have family history of that happening. So it is still a possibility. I have an appointment on the 28th of September, that was the soonest I could get in because I had to get a new OBGYN.  But while I'm waiting I cant help but try and think of other things it could be. And Ovarian Cyst seem like it could also be the cause of my situation. I have symptoms like nausea, sleepiness, bloating, full feeling. or pressure in my lower abdomen. I have some minor pains, nothing severe its more like cramping, especially around the time I should be having a period. i have mood swings, food cravings, and an increased appetite, headaches, dizziness, leg cramps, heartburn, nasal congestion, nose bleeds, rib pain, i urinate very frequently and suddenly, indigestion, and...  One major thing Ive noticed is the cysts only irregulate  your periods.. mine have just simply disappeared.. I have not had a period sense May. its August 28, almost September.. I am working on 4 months period free.. I still have one month before I can be seen.. I will just keep taking the HPTs and see if I get another positive.. maybe if I do, my doctor will believe me and agree to an ultrasound..

Hi, welcome to the forum!
If your doctor doesn't' believe you and refuses to do an ultrasound... find a doctor who will listen to you! I don't want to scare you, but over 20 years ago I had my first ovarian cyst... my doctor at the time just kept giving me pain medication and he would switch me to something else when the pain got worse. I ended up in the ER... the pain was excruciating!! They did an ultrasound and rushed me into surgery... there was a cyst INSIDE my ovary that was the size of a grapefruit! Had they waited any longer my ovary would have ruptured! After that I continued to suffer from ovarian cysts. All the way up until after I had my two boys, then I finally said just take it all out! I had years of suffering until my hysterectomy .
I don't know about the cysts mimicking pregnancy... I do know they can cause a false negative on home pregnancy tests. But I honestly think you should find a doctor who will listen to you and perform the ultrasound!

Thank you so much for the post.. the thing about it is.. is its just a cramping feeling.. i mean i have some indigestion, but nothing severe... so I don't know.. I do have an appointment the 28th with a new doctor.. so I hope all goes well with him, until then I am going to keep taking HPTs to see if I get a positive..

You are very welcome! During the years before my hysterectomy I had many, many cysts. I had a few Laparoscopies and a Laparotomy. With each cyst there were different extremes depending on the size and location.
I am glad you have an appointment with a new doctor! Please be sure to keep me updated! .

just an added note.. sometimes it was cramps and other times it was "knock me to my knees pain".
Do you want to be pregnant? Even after all my difficulties with the cysts and after losing 20% of one ovary ... I still managed to have beautiful boys who are now 18 and 15!!  :-)
Since Brigham and Womens hospital in Boston told me that I would not be able to have children they are my "miracle babies".
and to be honest.... when I was pregnant with my first, I thought he was a cyst! LOL...  I had the same symptoms for so many years that I was in total shock!

well when it all first started.. i didnt even think about being pregnant.. i mean i had had sex, but i just didnt think of it. I thought it was a cysts first. I have never had one, but my mom has had them. Then my sister-in-law said it sounded like i was pregnant, and her mom, the first time shed seen me in a long time, who didnt know anything was going on, asked me if i was pregnant. she said I had that glow. so thats when I really started thinking maybe I could be pregnant. At first I didnt want to be at all, I'm still very young, but people kept asking me if I was pregnant and I kept developing more symptoms, which were related to pregnancy more so then cysts, and the idea of being a mom kind of grew on me, and now its to the point where if it is a cysts I am scared out of my mind that I may not ever be able to have kids. My mom had to have a hysterectomy.. I do want to have kids, I no that there is a possibility that I am pregnant just as much as there is a possibility that I am not, I just hope that if it is the cysts that I can have kids after words because I do want to get pregnant..

I have just been informed I have a 4cm cyst on my right ovary.  I have major nausea, sleepiness, bloating, feeling full, major pressure in mylower abdomen, cramping and moodswings.  I thought I was loosing my mind with the mood swings, I had road rage, and ourbursts, I feel l better knowing I'm not loosing my mind.  I go for another ultrasound in five days.  Dr. seems to think cyst will disolve, dont know why,it's been there for almost three monhts.  Is it bad to want it removed?  It is not worth all the pain of keeping it and letting it run its course, like the dr says.  The side effects are very annyoying and makes it extremely hard to proceed with our daily lives.
