Cracked heel and toes

I have cracked heels for more than 3 months now, except for their unsightly appearance, I was not bothered that much. But when the skin around my toe fingers including my cuticles started cracking, I feel worried as they are very painful. They looked like slice wounds that don't bleed and hardened to dry skin. Does anyone know what to do to treat this?

Thanks for the advices everyone! You're right about the severe dryness that caused the cracks on the heels. I followed Mikah's advice about the povidone iodine. I also have the dry skin filed and got a pedicure when the fresh cuts healed. The shallow cracks were gone but the deeper ones only improved but not totally gone. I think another footspa session would do the trick. I started moisturizing my feet that evening and went home to bed wearing socks. I've been doing the moisturizing everyday and I'm glad that no new cracks appeared. I'll just have to maintain this I think to avoid painful heel cracks in the future.

Have you tried over the counter creams and lotions for cracked heels before? You might want to try applying povidone iodine on the cracks especially those around your nails to heal the wounds. When they are already healed, get a footspa and pedicure from the salon to remove dried skin and cuticles. Then apply lotion on your feet and put on socks like Axx said overnight. Keeping the feet moisturized will prevent dryness. If the cracks persist then you will have to consult a doctor as this maybe caused by something else.

Hi,

There are special moisturizing lotions that can help with this condition. However, due to the severity of the dryness, etc, I would contact a dermatologist and ask for some special cream, etc to help with this condition.

I had a friend who had this. She had hers fixed at a salon.. but all they did was sand it down with a foot file until the cracks were gone and all the dried skin was sanded away. Thats pretty much it. And u can buy ur own foot file. But in order to keep it from coming back u have to keep your feet moisterized with lotion or something. What my friend did was she put lots of lotion on her feet and put socks on over it and left it over night. And she did this almost everynight. It worked for her and i hope it works for u too.
