Does this sound like a viral thing?

I've been sick on and off for about two weeks. The symptoms have been a lot of different things:
Headaches,
Sore glands,
Stiff neck,
Feeling exhausted not a lot of energy
Stomach discomfort and queasiness
Lower bowel cramps
Extreme bloating
Lower abdominal back pain
Feeling like urinating constantly
Frequent urination.

So I went to the doctor and he said that I'd need to do a blood test. So the results came back with everything fine except he said I have a large amount of hay fever causing cells. He said the results of the blood test shows I don't have glandular fever or giardia or any diseases that are bacterial. So he said its likely that I have a virus and I asked how long they last and he said as long as it takes for your immune system to kill.

So I'm really anxious because these symptoms have been going for about a week and a half and I have tried going off lactose and it really hasn't made a difference so I'm wondering about glucose intolerance but I'm also wondering if I should trust the doctor?

I should mention i haven't had any vomiting or diarrhea at all. And my bowel movements are fairly consistent. I'm also thinking about the possibility of IBS but I don't want to worry too much. All of these symptoms came on suddenly and I think that means its more likely a virus?

The symptoms aren't unbareable but they do cause me a lot of discomfort. Please help!

Glad to see you are better. Continue to drink plenty of water and also take extra Vitamin C and D, these will help to build up your immunity. I would say that you did have a type of virus, they can be hard to get rid of at times.,

It is highly probable that you did have a viral infection.

You are doing the right thing in drinking more fluids.  Any urinary problems require fluids (especially water) to flush out the offending particle/virus/bacterial.

Keep a record of your symptoms and also if any of these symptoms return.
If the urine problem does return, it may be worth getting an ultrasound done of your urinary tract - some of the symptoms could indicate kidney stones.  These can be as small as a grain of sand and can pass on their own without any medical intervention.

Thanks ! Yeah today I felt much better! I'm drinking lots of fluids! The urine test yesterday was clear and my doctor said I wasn't infected so we will see how it goes! Yeah I feel like it was probably viral. Thanks for your concern!

So it sounds like the GI symptoms are improving now.  It doesn't sound like IBS since you would have diarrhea alternating with constipation, and this came on suddenly.  So the GI is improving...I would continue to monitor and see how it goes.

Glucose problems would have shown up in your labs, and your MD would have ordered more to rule out other problems.  So I don't think you need to worry about Glucose Intolerance.

So that leaves the first 4 symptoms, which if it is a virus will take time.  Are you resting and giving in to it?  Drinking plenty of fluids (esp. water)?  Eating healthy now?  Getting plenty of sleep?

What did your MD say about your frequent urination?  Did he/she test to make sure you do not have an infection?

If you are still concerned after another week, consult with your doctor.  Let us know how you do. ;-)
