Ear noise

Ear noise

A few months ago I started to get a humming noise in my left ear- it doesn't bother me much during the day but is stopping me getting to sleep at night. I can't think of anything that may have caused it.  It started having it one or 2 nights a fourtnight and then more often and now it is all the time except for maybe I will have a few nights in a row a month where its just not there - no reason.  Its a deep humming noise.  Two months ago I went to my GP who thought it may be being caused by fluid so he prescribed a steroid nasal spray and referred me to aa ENT specialist.  I had forgotten all about the fluid in my ear as I suppose I have got used to it- I think it was left over from a bad cold I had years ago- I know its still there as when I swallow I can hear it but not in my other ear at all.  I finally got my ENT appointment yesterday: Firstly I had a hearing test which was apparently normal then I saw the specialist.  He asked if I had any dizzyness which I don't and a few other questions, not many, and then told me that tinitus is difficult to manage!  This totally shocked me as there had been no other tests.  He was dismissive of the fluid in my ear saying it would not be causing the problem.  I came home very upset with no hope.... Is it not possible the fluid is causing the problem?  If so is it possible to get rid of it?

Desperate for sleep.....
