Emergency Nightmare!

I need some advice please! I was told to call a week before my next appointment at my Dr.'s office and the receptionist and Dr acted like it was ver relaxed no problem they'd always squeeze me in or find me a space I've been twice so far and it's been like that. This month I called on the 2nd off Thursday and no one even answered so I left a voicemail. Friday came around no call back so I called again, a woman answered and I told her I'd been trying to talk to someone to make an appointment that I was due for my pain medicine refill on Sunday but It'd be okay if I came on Monday I didn't mind. She was rude and said I couldn't get an appointment until the 27th and I explained I was going to run out and the dr acted like he'd always let me come in no problem. She said that's all shed do for me. I was upset and said that was ridiculous and I didn't get anything accomplished with her. I called again on Saturday hoping the dr was there or a new person to talk to..no one answered they were closed but I left a MSG no one called back. I called today "Monday" and another lady answered she said I'd have to wait til the 27th too. I asked to talk to the Dr she said shed get back to me, they called back no dr but the manager and she was RUDE it was the same rude lady I began talking to last week! She said for me to go I the emergency room and I asked her if that's what my dr said for me to do and if this is what he does to his patients and she wouldn't answer me. I'm so upset and so worried about what to do. They won't tell him I'm trying to call him and now this lady has it out for me. They were always do nice the old receptionist I saw te last two times isn't there anymore? So weird and this dr loved me my girlfriend's dad made the introduction he's really close with him! I tried to tell them he wouldn't be ok with this and they hung up. I can't afford to wait for a new doctors appointment somewhere else it could take a long time and I can't afford the first time visit they're usually very expensive! I had enough cash especially to see my usual doctor and I really liked the guy! I've never had this prob before he's never this busy that's why I didn't call for an appointment earlier! I've been trying 4 days now though I even said I could see him anytime this week they won't make any exceptions and my dr said he area about his patients so much he comes in on weekends at times for emergencies to see his patients! What the hell his this treatment I am so upset please help can I sue? How will I make them help me if he has no clue how terrible this is? They don't want him to know I feel so it's all around a mess. I am scared to start feeling bad due to not getting my prescription for pain medicine and I thought it'd be fine like the other times everything went smoothly I went to my appointment on time and had no problem with them being too busy to see me I would call a week ahead of my appt. just like now. I'm so confused any advice please? My Gf's dad gave this guy years of business and money he was a steady customer, I can't believe this disrespect!

I'm glad you were finally able to get through to find out what's going on in that doctor's office.  There is enough injustice in this world without having to fight tooth and nail just to get our meds!  We get phone calls from  Medicare and Medicaid asking if we were treated right whenever we go to our clinic.  I try to be truthful and helpful and not negative unless necessary. -  But I will appreciate those phone calls so much more after what happened to you! -  I hope you don't have any adverse reactions from being so overwhelmed and upset!  Good thing you took someone with you, too.  Kudos to your girlfriend and to you.  Take care.

Glad you got it worked out and good for you for standing up for yourself. If you go to another dr I would write a letter to the dr and explain exactly why you changed drs. He should never be ok with his patients getting treated like crap. They work for you not the other way around. I am glad my dr was not willing to allow that type of treatment to continue in his office. Hopefully his other patients will follow in your footsteps. Best wishes, Sissie

So come to find out they hired all NEW staff that are doing this to everyone! My girlfriend and I demanded to see my doctor to show them they were in the wrong and treated me like trash. They were fearful and the manager brought me into the office to talk in private she immediately acted like she was there to help even though over the phone she was the one that told me to pretty much go screw myself go to the ER and after threatened to complain and said I wanted her name she had hung up on me. She acted like it wasn't her in person and agreed to talk to the Dr. for me, she didn't want problems because it turns out these people are all new staff members he hired and they don't know how thing work. They're changing their whole way of doing things there and are reluctant to help clients now, I wasn't aware they were so crowded it happened over night. Anyway, he wrote a prescription refill out and she brought it out to me. They scheduled me in for next month and said make sure to make it when we schedule you appointments come in when you're supposed to so this doesn't happen again! She was trying to cover up for herself. They didn't charge me for my prescription so they must know how wrong they are. I saw really grimy patients come in and out of there and the manager looked like an ex meth addict, this place is a circus, I'm amazed at how awful they are. It looks to me like he is okay with this behavior and she was degrading and rude to other patients in the phone as well! I'm not the only one. Thanks for the support everyone, I may start looking elsewhere for care because I don't feel well about them being my care provider anymore. He is going to lose many patients due to this new staff he's picked to represent him and the new patients he has in there that are plain nasty.

I agree with wendyas. Take the appointment on the 27 and ask the pharmacy if they will call the dr office and get it refilled for the days you will be out until your appointment. Often times the dr does not even know what the receptionist are saying to the patients. I would also suggest you call his office and ask for the dr to call you back. Also if you like the dr and can get this problem resolved start making appointments a month in advance so you know you will have no future problems. I had issues with the receptionist at my drs office and know what a pain it is, when I went in I explained things with my dr and we got it worked out. He had no knowledge of my calls and oftentimes drs get so busy they rely on the receptionist and nurses to take care of things like scheduling and med refills. I hope you can get things worked out. Reporting the dr may not be the best thing to do as you could be blackballed and really stuck in a mess and that is not what you want when you deal with severe pain all the time. Best wishes, Sissie

It sounds to me like there is a misunderstanding between either you and the physician or between the physician and the receptionists.  You may not have a choice but to accept the appointment on the 27th and then clarify with the doctor the procedure you need to go through to get your medication refilled.
Make sure you use that time with the doctor efficiently and ask specific questions directly related to what you NEED from him. You're only there a short time and you have to make the most of that time and understand what he says
If you feel you can't wait that long to get more of the medication, you might try calling the phamacy where you last had it filled to see if they will call his office and authorize a refill.

Call the Health Dept. and ask them how and where to report a doctor.  Then do it!!  No one deserves to be treated this way.  I am so sorry that you are having such a problem - it's bad enough that we can't get pain medication except from a pain doctor - Do follow through and call another doctor and explain the situation  - that it's an emergency.  They may be able to work you in to see a new doctor for at least one month's meds.  Then make an appt. to see the new doctor regularly.  I hope things go well for you.
