Female Health Problem

I'm 54 years old and haven't had a period in about 6-7 years.  About three-4 months ago, I started having a really bad problem with female itching and burning.  It hurts to even use toilet paper.  At times, it feels as if one side is swollen.  I finally got so desperate tonight after my bath that I got a mirror.  I'm really red on one side - really red.  There also appears to be white streaks in places.  What could be going on?  I've had UTI's in the past, but this is nothing like that.  Do I need to be "really" concerned or just put up with this and see if I can find something OTC to help alleviate the itching and pain.  I've already tried feminine itch relief products and they help for a few hours and then it wears off and I'm right back in pain again.

Thanks for your response.  I'm still feeling discomfort, but not as bad as yesterday.  I'm wondering if my gull bladder is having issues.
There are many types of bacterial infections that can happen in that area besides the usual yeast one.  If over the counter meds isn't helping you should see you doc to figure out what's going on.  I have used the prescription stuff before and it's much better than OTC.

Dont mean this to sound flippant as I am sure what you are experiencing is uncomfortable, have you got new underwear made of a differant material recently you could be allaergic to, a lot of people are allergic to nylon and those man made fibres ,it occured to me it could be that simple ,or even the soap liquid you wash your under wear in, or shower gel or soap you would clean your self with.Just a thought.
