Gallbladder pain years after removal

Gallbladder pain years after removal

I am a 29 female with 2 children and I had my gallbladder removed in May 2008.  In November 2008 I had a second surgery to remove a missed stone that was causing severe pain (I was in the 1% of people that have a stone missed during surgery), I was in the hospital for a week.  Until recently everything has been fine.  As of lately I have been having the same kind of pain the I have before the second surgery.  So my question is can another 'stone' grow even if you no longer have a gallbladder?  Or is this something entirely different?

Hello, once your gallbladder is out it is very rare but not impossible to form a gallstone in the bile duct, the condition is called choledocholithiasis.  Also, you can be having phantom gallbladder pain-false gallbladder pain.  Even though your GB is gone you have the pain associated with it and can even have GB attacks.  If it's been 2 years and you've not had it before or the entire time I would definitely be checked for other causes though.
Also, it could be a blockage or a problem associated with your pancreatic bile duct.

Good Luck
