Has anyone taken the med mobic for hip & sciatic nerve pain?

I just started Mobic (meloxicam) a few days ago and they say I should work fast. Im taking one 7.5 tab a day for Piriformis syndrome which is a disorder that occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed or otherwise irritated by the piriformis muscle. I really don't see any difference in my pain level at all, I had more help w ibphrofen, should I take that right now too? could I increase the dose till I talk to my doc on Monday or should I give it more time to work? Thnks

I don't believe the exercises can be learned on-line, but that is a personal opinion.

Do you think there would be anyway for me to follow the exercises they have online for this condition? They did tests (scans) and said things in my back & spine looked fine, so he thinks that bc I had bursitis so long in my hip and cant (& couldn't) rest it very often, that muscle is very tight and obviously gets irritated more when I work bc I have to bend and kneel down a lot, so that's why it is compressing the sciatic nerve. (he also said he was almost certain there would be something wrong with my back bc of cheerleading for 10 years & bc of running the test that proved the sciatic nerve was being effected)  The pain in my hip (& butt cheek) doesn't always cause the severe nerve pain when it flares up, even though the hip pain normally always hurts. So again, is there anyway possible to spend an hour doing the exercises from online..Ive been to physical therapy b4 & would love to go for this. I went after I had my 1st knee surgery..even though I think somethings they had me do actually hurt me more after my couple of months there were over.

If the problem is the piriformis (usually there is also some compression of the sciatic nerve in the L1-L5 bregion in addition and disc protrusion) it is absolutely positively essentisal to go to a profressional rehab specialist recommended by your physician and learn the exercises. They will show you step-by-step and you will follow until you learn. There are at least a dozen different exercises. Practicing them every sing;le day is essential. If these rehab sessions are not paid by insurance pay them yourself. It will be the best investment you will ever make.

It was runny nose, watery eyes and sore throat. Just keep an eye on it and if you feel something weird call your doctor or check for side effects online.
My doctor gave me Flexeril 10 mg and he told me to take 1/2 pill. But I was afraid to take it because he told me it will make me really sleepy and I had to work next day. I cut it in like 6 pieces and still knocked me down the first day that I woke up at 11 am and was late for work. Now my doctor gave me Flexeril 5mg and I cut them in 4 pieces and that works fine without feeling sleepy next day.

Yes I'm on the flexaril still. It only helps w stiffness, & its half a normal dose, plus it makes me so sleepy I rarely take it. I think the mobic may b helping some bc my hip didn't hurt quit as bad today, compared to others. & when u said u felt like u had a cold was it a runny nose & sore throat? Bc I've had that all day after taking it..? Thanks again

I was taking Mobic once a day in the mornings. I don't remember being sleepy.

Are you still taking Flexeril? Is it helping you with pain?

My doctor told me Mobic is a cheap drug that most people can take without side effects but some people are really sensitive (like me...), so he gave it to me as a trial and told me just to discontinue if it didn't work for me.

That doctor thought I had arthritis and fibromyalgia because my joints in my hands and ankles were swollen and prescribed Mobic for it but at the end I went to a rheumatologist and after a lot of blood tests he told me I didn't have arthritis nor fibromyalgia. They still don't know what I have.

Wow..you wouldn't think this type of med could cause all that, I thought it was similar to an NSAID. It's been about 4days now I've been on it & haven't noticed anything either way. Does this make you sleepy & how often did you take it?

When I was on Mobic (meloxicam), the second day I spent all day with a runny nose and red eyes, couldn't stop crying all day like I was having a really bad cold but later I found out it was one of the side effects. But, the worse was when I went to exercise with my trainer and noticed my heart rate was crazy going from 100 to 220 in seconds and going down to 60 while I was warming up on the elliptical machine. After my exercise routine, at night one of my calves was totally swollen (2 inches more compared to the other one) and my left leg was totally numb. My blood pressure was high (over 160) and I was feeling like I was going to pass out (nausea, blurred vision). Next morning I called my insurance and they told me to go to emergency room to have an ultrasound in my leg to see if I had a blood clot. They didn't find any (lucky me!) but my doctor told me to immediately discontinue the medication (meloxicam). It all happenned only after 5 days taking the medication at the lowest dose. It was a nightmare!

oh wow that I didn't know! Im 28..does that matter..im hoping he didn't think this would effect me! Im on flexeril now & I don't get much relief, as you said I did in the beginning. The prednisone helped but way too many side effects I could not deal with, & the pain meds are really not helping unless I take it right b4 it gets bad, & normally I can tell if its just achy or the sciatic pain is beginning, but still that leaves me taking the pain meds more. So im kinda stuck. It does come & go (it always aches but not always severe). I know I cant afford phy therapy now my insurance wont cover it. But a lady at my doc showed me exercises to do but I really don't do them as much as I should. Mainly b4 bed so I wont be stiff in the am. If I just knew something to help this nerve pain that'd be awesome. Im already on Neurontin, but have been for 10 yrs so I don't see a difference with that either..& Cymbalta but I have no clue if that helps w this. So anyway I will ask about the TENS unit I use to have one & it helped w shoulder pain after a car accident, so maybe it'd work for this..somethings gotta give soon..thanks for the advice!

Miloxican has an adverse effect on cardiac unction and perfusion. There are lots of side effects. Muscle relaxants are contraidicated for piriformis strain except or the first day or two. They cause loss of muscle tone. You should ask your physician to consider use of a TENS device and transdermal lidocaine as well as several visits with a physical rehabilitation specialist who will demonstrate several exercises you must perform on a daily basis.

I took that medication too but my doctor told me I had to wait up to 2 weeks for the medication to start working properly. I had to stop it by the 5th day because the side effects were awful and that pill almost killed me.
As far as I know this medication (Mobic) is prescribed for arthritis.
For pain I took a muscle relaxer Flexeril and it worked since the first day I took it. In 2 days I was pain free in my neck, arms and shoulders after having non stop pain and numbness for months.
