I do not know anything about blood numbers, so cannot comment on that.
But yes, virus infections can go on for ages, depends on the persons immunity.
If you are concerned that your father may have rectal cancer, get the doctor to do a fecaes test. This is very simple and unobtrusive. You could also ask for the faeces tobe tested for any bacteria as his diarrhea has not settled.
And then the next thing, if things were not settling is to request a colonoscopy. The doctor may refer him for that if things do not settle down.
He may have a diverticular problem when the faeces go into the little pockets along the colon. When the diverticular pouch is impacted and inflammation occurs, this is called diverticulitis.
Unfortunately, as we get older it is much harder to fight the bugs off.
Hope he gets better soon. Make sure he drinks plenty.
i am just Over concerned About coloRectal ca here..

can a viral illness cause such a prolong fever with the prolong watery diarrhea ?
thanks for ur feedback..Really appreciate it:)
As your father has a productive cough and a fever, this is not related to his Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
I understand that Leflox is an antibiotic and this was prescribed to your father for his respiratory infection. He needs to be patient and complete the full course of antibiotics that was prescribed. If the infection has been caused by a virus, the antibiotic will not work.
Make sure he drinks plenty of warm drinks, like lemon and honey, or Ribena or any other warm drink he prefers. Avoid milky drinks as this encourages mucus formation. He can also do steam inhalations over a bowl of hot water with Vick or Olbas oil in and inhale the steam with the head covered with a towel over the bowl of steam. Take care not to get scalded.
That sounds like good advice from Ihateyoubugsdie with regard to the Digestive Advantage Intensive Bowel Support medicine. I am drinking the yogurts with the good bacteria and also recently purchased the Lactobacillus acidophilus (etc) in capsule form. No doubt your dad is well aware of the diet he needs to eat and to drink plenty of water 2-3 lites per day is recommnded so that he does not become dehydrated and that will also help with his constipated. Going for walks or some other form of exercise also helps the bowels to move.
Glycerine suppositories can help to ease the movement when it is hard as well as other suppositories, should he get haemorroids.
I had IBS. All I know is my stomach felt swollen and I can bareley move around. I went to see my dr and he wanted to run tests and I told him I think it's IBS. He said that would be the last diagnosis. I thought that was kinda awkward. So he gave me pain killers. It didn't help one bit. I went to CVS and found an over the counter IBS called Digestive Advantage Intensive Bowel Support medicine. I took some and right away the swelling and pain went away in like 10 minutes. Every time I feel it coming, I just pop one and it goes away. I had a coworker dealing with stomach pain for over 3 months and lost so much weight and missed work. I finally caught up with him and asked him what was wrong. He explained his symptoms and said the drs do not have a diagnosis. I told him to go to CVS and get the medicine. I had some in my purse and gave it to him. He took it and 15 minutes later called me to tell me I was a genius. If the docs diagnosed him then for sure this medicine will work for him. It is actually made of beneficial bacteria specifically for IBS.
