High RBC count

High RBC count

This is second blood report (atleast which I had chance to look at) that my total RBC count is elevated to around 6.2 10E12 / L and MCV indicating small RBCs and MCH is abnormal too... should I be concerned of any cardiac anomalies? does this warrant me asking my GP for a hematology refferal?

Actually, my recent workup at the cardiology clinic was totally unremarkable.

I have a pending appointment for a pulmonary function testing (e.g. spirometry) soon...

Could this be emphesyma related? though I have never smoked in my life, I do get Short of breath very often...

What are you seeing a cardiologist for if I may ask?

Well, I has a checkup at the cardiologist because recently it was found out  that I have all the risk factors that could have cause an imminent heart attack. At 24 yrs of age, that is... how fun!

But he has given me green flags, no heart troubles. He things if has to do with lungs. I have no idea but I am suffering quite a deal with shortness of breath.

Definitely go for your PFT(pulmonary function testing) to rule out any lung issues.  I don't think it is a cardiac issue or a pulmonary issue.

Your family physician didn't order an Iron Panel for you because of the abnormal RBC, MCV and MCH counts?  Sounds like you are anemic.  Anemia can cause shortness of breath.

Lastly, if the pulmonary testing comes back clean/ok, I would then request the Hematology referral.  I think that your primary problem is that you are anemic or have some sort of hematology problem.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the swift reply!

(on a random note: I re read my above post and OMG, so many typos... I guess thats what happens when you only get 3 hrs of sleep! )

Anemia is what one would think, given that I am always tired and have chronic kidney disease too... but strange enough, iron is perfect! I had my nephrologist check my ferritin levels and HgB also, its all very optimal. Weird, eh?

I had some blood work done yesterday, lets see what it shows...if the anomaly persists, I will definitely go to hematology.

Thanks again for the replies.

Have an awesome weekend!
