Hi Lindy
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance so was unable to get lab results but have stayed on the Bactrim for the last week and an feeling so much better. If I don't feel 100% by the time the med is gone I will return to the dr. I have also been drinking plenty of cranberry juice so hope that is helping as well. Thanks again and hope for daughter feels free as well.
For the drug to be effective, you need to take the entire prescription, then, if you do not notice any changes, I would tell your physician, another, maybe stronger antibiotic could be warranted.
You have to take the antibiotic for the COMPLETE amount of days specified. Usually a physician will prescribe an orange or red pill along with the antibiotic. This pill is called pyridium and it coats your urinary tract and relieves the pain while the antibiotic is doing its magic. You can buy this pill over the counter as well. If you have completed your medication and you still have no relief, a trip back to the doctor is definitely in order. You may need stronger meds to kill off the bacteria
Hi there,
As far as I know from personal experience and my daughter's (she suffered for 11 years with chronic UTI's) the Bactrim should have started giving you relief by now. Did they send a urine sample for laboratory testing to see what type of infection you have and what antobiotic it's suseptible to? If they only tested the sample on a urine stick then please go back to your doctor as they will probably have to send a sample to the labs to identify the strain of infection you have. Please don't leave it as it can spread to your kidneys. Also what helped us tremendously with the burning is Cranberry juice and capsules, it also helps to heal infections faster and most importantly drink loads of water. Hope you feel better soon. Take care.
