I take 100mg doxycycline 2x daily, along with a Multivitamin. Could I also add a Vitamin E supplement to keep my skin healthy?

I was told the multivitamin and doxy wouldn't interact. Would I be overdoing it with the addition of Vitamin E?

I don't see why not, but, ask the pharmacist first to make sure.

Also, there are some great Vitamin E liquids on the market, some, you can take orally or put directly on the skin, so, that might be an option as well, I use it on my skin, but the bottle says I can drink it too, so, it is really pure.

You should not be taking doxycycline daily to "keep your skin healthy" unless you have an infection.

The doctor who prescribed the antibiotic needs a re-evaluation of his fitness to practice medicine.

A daily dose will only ensure that you will develop an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria.

he wants me on it for at least another year. i have moderate acne that has lessened since i started a daily doxy regimen. i had pretty painful ones on my chest and back that were unbearable. that's when i decided to go see a dermatologist. i'm interested in a natural alternative.

The problem is with long-term use of any antibiotic is that the patient invariably develops a resistant strain of antibiotics. Antibiotics are useful to eliminate an infection. They should not be used prophalactically.

Atr one time tetracycline was prescribed on a daily basis to treat acne. The result was to cause the development of bacterial strains that will not be destroyed by tetracycline. The number of antibiotics available are not unlimited.

The appropriate course of action would be to (1) evaluate the status of your immune system and come up with a plan to strengthen it. This could include a multi-vitamin, 1000 mg of vitamin C a day, a zinc supplement and 5000 IU of vitamin D3. Good diet and daily exposure to sunlight for at least thirty minutes will alsop help. (2) To take a culture of the infection to determine an appropriate antibiotic and then administer the antibiotic in sufficient strength to eliminate the organism.

Saunas, loofa scrubs, and use of a mild bactricidal soap such as phisohex over infected areas would be a better idea..
