Irritated burning tongue and gums

Irritated burning tongue and gums

I had my teeth cleaned on Wednesday. On Thursday, I started having some areas on my inner gums and my tongue that felt irriated. My tongue hurt on the sides and the tip. I have what I think is a geograhic tongue and so it seems to react to foods anyway. Over the next two days, my tongue has continued to hurt, itch and burn. The bumps on the tip are enlarged and the tongue has red streaky areas on it. Also my gums (inner, lower gums) are still irritated and are painful. What is this???

Hello Deb292,

It's possible you have an infection or allergic irritation from the work. Call your dental hygienist straight away or if you feel it is an infection call your doctor or dentist. I do hope  it settles down for you soon,

Rhiannon
