Is a kidney infection contagious?

A few weeks ago my boyfriend had blood in his urine and about a week later I was diagnosed with a kidney infection. He went to the hospital about a week after that  and found out he had 3 kidney stones (but was not told he had a kidney infection). He went back to the hospital again about 4 days later (because he was in so much pain) and was asked if he'd recently had sex because he had a kidney infection and didn't have one 4 days earlier. Did I give him my kidney infection?
