Is this the flu?

Is this the flu?

i have been fighting what seems to be a cold for a few weeks now. Most of the symptoms are gone, but I still have mucus in my sinus and chest. hince a lot of coughing. However, just now I woke up drenched with sweat, though I do feel a little better. What should I do? Should I see a doctor?

Hello, the cold and flu bugs that are going around this year seem to never end.  I battled mine with similar symptoms for 4 months.  I'd think it was going away and the next morning or later that day it would be there again.  I eventually ended up going to the doctor because I was sick of being sick.

It is possible you had a temperature and it broke while you were asleep, resulting in waking up drenched in sweat.  You probably feel some better because you are no longer running a temp. or your temp is a lot lower than before.

My doc put me on a Z-Pak- (an antibiotic to help fight infection) and tussin pearls (for cough), and said to use Claritin, and Mucinex OTC.  Also drink plenty of fluids and take or drink plenty of Vitamin C.  Mine went away within a couple of days after starting treatment, thank goodness.

If your symptoms don't subside soon, you need to see your doctor because you may have bronchitis, an upper and lower respiratory infection and possibly even walking pneumonia which has been seen a lot this year, as well. You most likely will need an antibiotic to finally get rid of all your symptoms.   I  Hope this Helps.  Good Luck.

If it felt like a typical winter-season cold, then it probably is. I wouldn't be too concerned about bronchitis or anything else unless you've been fighting some really strong symptoms like a hoarse voice, sore throat, hot/cold fluctuations, painful cough, weakness, etc. Sweating is your body's way of balancing its temperature so if you feel better after your night sweat, it probably did its job.
Crackerjack4u2 made some good suggestions about Vitamin C and plenty of fluids. This really helps flush out any toxins in your body. A phlemy cough is usually the last stage of a common cold and your body is trying to get out the remains. It sounds like you are almost over it. Just take it easy for a few more days.
