Loss of Appetite and Lethargic

My son Ryan is 8 years old.  His last day of school, June 18, he came home shaky and not feeling well.  He was acting so strange I took him to the doctor and they drew blood to test blood sugar, gluclose levels and a bunch of other tests, which all came back normal.  He was like that for that whole weekend but recovered on Sunday and was back to normal for about two weeks.  On 4th of July weekend, it happened again.  He was tired, weak, shaky, his legs hurt and he had no appetite, he would not eat.  We took him back to the doctor on Monday where they drew blood and ran another round of tests.  The blood work showed a trace of strep antibodies and slightly elevated levels of creatinine (BUN was 29 and serum was .96) and they suggested we see a Nephrologist, which we are this week.  In the meantime, he is still struggling with the weakness and loss of appetite but some days he is great and feeling like his old self.  He complains that he feels full but is hungry, he eats and feels sick; it doesn't make sense.  Does this sound like the elevated creatinine level or something else we should test for?  Any suggestion is appreciated, I'm going out of my mind with worry.

You know I was wondering what his fluid intake was like he could have those kind of symptoms if he was dehydrated kids often need reminding to drink more water, they do want too many sodas especially in the summer and as sassylassie says what color is his urine a dark color is an indication if he is dehydrated ..

These could be symptoms of the elevated creatinine, I am glad you are going to see a kidney speicalist, he will be able to tell you what is going on and what to do for it. In the meantime, have your son drink water instead of sodas and such, low protein, low potassium, low phosphorus, low sodium, higher calorie for his diet.

Has he been urinating enough? What is the color? How is his blood pressure.

Try not to worry too much at this point, you will be taking him to a specialist, and as I said, he will tell you exactly what is going on and the steps needed to take care of anything abnormal.

Please keep me posted on how your son is doing.

Hugs to you both.
