MRSA or Brown Recluse

MRSA or Brown Recluse

I had a previous post.  The large baseball mass under my left arm turned out to be full of green pus with black flakes in it.  I was in the er 3 times within a week. 3 cultures were done all were negative for MRSA It ruptured on its own on day 8.  I saw a surgeon had a second sonogram that showed another abscess deep in the axillary cavity.  Surgery was done.  I have had nausea vomiting, headaches, chills fever, severe body aches and severe pain at this site. When the pain first started I had what I thought was an asthma attack which subsided.  I was never admitted to the hospital and antibiotics have been changed 3 times.  I would like another opinion I personally feel this was a brown recluse spider bite.  Are there any long term side affects from this, I am now having pain in my chest and my kidneys hurt constantly.

This definitely sounds like a bacterial infection. Folliculitis, tinea barbae of the folliculitis type and dermatitis may be differentials here. The way you described it however, suggests that an infection has set in. You may need oral antibiotics for this. Culture of the discharge will be able to guide medical treatment. At this point, may I ask if you usually shave the area or if you have an underlying disease condition which requires prolonged use of steroids eg asthma?
Infection disease Dr told me it was Merca. A strain of staff, 1st symptom is a itch, then a small pimple, by the 3rd day a large red skim area, very sensitive to touch-don’t try to bust it it only will get worst, on day 6-7 a greenish yellowish puss that drains for 2-3 days. I normally use poraxide to keep it clean and then bandage it until heals. I have one now that in its draining stage. I heard Nutragena T-Gel shampoo can be used during the early days when you start to feel it coming on. The first one was on my arm, had 6-8 on my face area which is the most common. I had one come near my eye brown area and swelled my eye shut for a week until it drain and relieved the pressure. Good Luck asks your Dr to treat you withVancomycin.

Hi and sorry you are having this problem. It sounds like a bacterial infectious because of the pus, fever and pain. A brown recluse spider bite will show necrosis of the skin. Green pus could be caused by a type of bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa (which has a green pigment) and is very resistant to a lot of antibiotics. Vancomycin would not work on this organism. However, I assume since you had a lot of work done on the area that it has been cultured. You say it is negative for MRSA. Staph aureus is yellow pigmented and could look greenish. But since they have screen for it it sounds like one of the other many resistant bacteria out there. Usually with a wound culture they don't just check for MRSA. Did they tell you there was a bacterial infection or just do the surgery to lance it? If they haven't given you oral antibiotics it does sound like you need them. Can you go see an infectious disease specialist as soon as possible? They are great at getting to the root infections. You don't want this to get into your blood stream. Since you have a fever this is obviously not good. How did you get the wound?
