Get to a doctor ASAP - You could tear your cervix or vagina and need surgery if you do.  Have him/her remove it and perhaps look for another type of birth control.

Hi there!  I've had the Mirena twice- once after my son 6 years ago then had it taken out to have my 2nd child -now I've had this one in now for about 3 years.  I know a side effect of it at first could be bleeding for a couple weeks- like a longer period-but when it comes to the strings- they should Not be hanging out- you should only be able feel them-if you physically stick your finger/s up there far enough- until you feel your cervix then you should be able to feel them.   I had to go back to my GYN to get them trimmed- you should go back to your GYN and tell them you want them cut so that any sexual partner can barely feel them.  My husband barely feels them up there.  I personally love the mirena- the longer you are on it- the less and less you bleed each month for each period.  I no longer get the debilitating cramps or heavy bleeding- I spot only 2 days- I do still get PMS symptoms though lol- bloating, breaking out, irritable,emotional- but all in all the Mirena is amazing to not have to remember to take a pill everyday. Tell your provider about the bleeding (they will most likely say its normal) but the strings should not be hanging out- I would kindly demand that they cut them as short as they can :)  Best of luck and I hope your experience with the Mirena is a good one!
