Multiple Ovarian Cysts while on Birth Control

Background:
-I've been on birth control pills for 7-8 years (originally put on BC pills to supress cysts)
-I haven't had my period in 9 months (and I am definitely not pregnant)
-Along w/not having my period, i experience a consistent dull ache in my lower left abdomen.

Went to the doctor b/c of my lack of period & was advised to have an ultrasound. I Had an ultra sound today and it showed multiple 'cysts' in my left ovary. The technition said i could have PCOS, even though i show no outwardly symptoms. i'm a litle nervous that this is something more than just cysts - especially since i thought Birth Control Pills were suppose to stop cyst formation. Any help/advise would be GREATLY appreciated!
