Multipule vehicle accidents as a cause of hiatal hernia?

Over the years I have had a number of vehicle accidents which resulted in upper body trauma. Whip-lash, ejection, broken clavicals etc. it wasn't pretty. I believe that a hiatal hernia that has 50% of my stomach above the diaphram is the result of these accidents. Colateral damage so to speak. I being scheduled for wrap surgery to correct this.( I believe this is the correct term) Although HH history in my family is strong, No one has gotten to the level that I am. Have you ever heard of this occuring? Which type of specialist would be the best to ask this question? Thank you you were the closest to a general practicianer. Sorry if I wasted your time.

No question is a waste of my time, I feel it is a privilege to help others, I may not always have an answer, but, I will do my best to help.

I, too, have a hiatal hernia. Mine gives me all kinds of trouble from GERD, to irregular heart beats, to chest pains. You name it, it can cause it. My chiropractor pulls it down each time I see him, but, unfortunately, it comes back up. I was told to not have surgery unless it got really bad as it can be sort of serious due to all the other organs surrounding the darn thing.

Yes, the accident could have certainly caused you to get one of these, or, if you had one already, made it worse.

I would see a Gastroenterologist for this. I am going to copy two links for you, one is to our Gastro Forum and the other is for our GERD forum, many folks on the latter forum have hiatal hernias, and I bet you will be able to get some help from them too.  Here they are:

I hope I that I have been of some help, please keep me posted as to how you are doing.
