Neonatal Hepatitis

Neonatal Hepatitis

Our baby boy was born on March 11th, 4 weeks early.  He was in NICU for 22 days.  His biliruben (direct) has been elevated and caused some concern.  We were sent to a Liver Specialists where a Liver Biopsy was done.  The specialist ruled out Biliary Atresia at that time and said that all his levels and jaudice should go away by the time he is 6 months.  He said that the liver tissue and bile ducts showed no damage in the biopsy.  My concern is that his numbers are still really high.  We just had blood work done last week and got the results today.  His direct biliruben is 7.6 (up from 6.8 from about 3 weeks ago).  His Liver Enzymes are at 396, the ALT is at 377 and his GGT is at 112.  The doctor said that the protein in the liver was good.  She wants to repeat the blood work in 4 weeks.  My husband and I are concerned that these elevated enzymes and biliruben will cause damage if nothing is done to fix it.  He is currenlty on a medication called Actigal that is supposed to be helping...but I feel it is not.  He is growing and eating really well.  He has went from 5 pounds to a current weight of 9.8.  Should I be concerned or just be patient?  Should I get a 2nd opionion somewhere else?  Please help.
