Only Half the Toe Nail had Died.

Only Half the Toe Nail had Died.

I am a skater and a couple months a go noticed that my toe was turning dark on one side.  I did not bother it.  It is not sore any more.  Last night I was examining my toe and could see that only half of the toe has turned dark and the other half is normal.  What does this mean?  I pulled up part of it but then when it got to the alive part it began to hurt, so I stopped.  What should I do about this. It has been a couple months and I have not ntoiced the toe nail growing.  How much do podietrists usually cost?  What should a do about a half dead half alive toe nail?

I would recommend you seeing a podiatrist.  The costs will not be able to be determined until the physician sees you unfortunately.  Until you see the physician, do no bother the nail; try to keep it intact (i.e. pulling off the bad part, cutting it, etc.)

Probably, the friction from the skating shoes and the skating activity has damaged the nail bed; not uncommon.
