Red bump on left ring finger knuckle area

Approximately 5-6 weeks ago while I was in my home and walking in the living room I had noticed a mosquito (pretty sure that was what it was) on my left hand near my ring finger knuckle. At the time I had an object in my right hand and proceeded to smack the back of my left hand against the entertainment center resulting in the bugs death. Didn't think much about it at the time, but several days later a red, bumpy area appeared near the same knuckle. The spot never did itch nor has it spread and when I push on it I can fill some softness to it.  I went to see my PCP a few weeks ago and nothing was prescribed and the main concern was to keep an eye on it in case of changes to the area and possible infection. My next appt is with my Dermatologist to look into further. Puzzled on if this is a result of the bite itself or hitting the knuckle area against a hard surface or both? Past bites have always gone away within a few days.
