Regular Abdomen Pain

about once per month i get this severe pain in the upper right side of my abdomen. nothing seems to help it so i just have to wait for the pain to subside, which usually takes about 5-8 hours. The pain is bad enough that i can't sleep and usually just spend the night walking around because that seems to dull the pain a little bit. At first I thought that it would be from eating spicy foods and at first after cutting them out of my diet it worked, but lately the pain has returned. I don't want to go to a doctor and pay a large bill for something that could be easily fixed but I am starting to get worried because the pain gets worse each time it happens
