Rib Pain

Hi. I have been expreiencing sharp pains in my lower left ribs for 3 weeks.  When I rubbed my hands down the side I could feel my ribs actually swollen or more like inflammed.  The only thing that I could think of that to cause this was pick up my 40 pound daughter.  I might have picked her up and held her the wrong way. We were walking in the snow and I did not want her to fall so I picked her up and carried her for about 3 long blocks.  My sides hurt but I made nothing of it.

I have taken Aleve and some of the inflammation has went down. I am still slighly puffy on that side. I am still sore and cannot even lay on my sides at night.

Is there anything else that I can do to aleviate the pain?  Or will the ribs just heal themselves?  How long does it take?

My doc is booked for the next month so we spoke over the phone. I was advised to take Aleve and although it has helped I am still in much pain. Once in a while,  it does hurt to breathe.  No bruising.  Looks puffy and inflamed though.

do you have any difficulty breathing?  are there any signs of bruising?  Recovery time is depending on whether your rib was fractured or simply bruised.  Why not swing by the doctor's office to have them take a look?
