Hello...I am 68 YO white male...do not smoke or drink...take meds for high blood pressure which are Atenolol 50mg and 100 mg each once a day..also Xanax .05 as needed ususally once a day...also Allopurinol 300 mg once a day..also Gemfibrozil 600 mg once a day...also zolpiden 10mg as needed, usually every night..also two regual aspirin daily...also Amlodipine Besylate 5mg once a day...also lisinopril 40 mg once a day...two months ago blood pressure was 117 over 74...am seeing a doctor but have this problem that he seesm to ignore or at least does not address and I am looking for an answer to...which is;

I get sudden and unexpected muscle crpas primarily on left side two and more time per day and that has been increasing and sometimes shows up on the right side also...most of the time it is like a mild uncomforable pressure on left side right at the rib and the side of my stomach...whe it filps to the right side it is pretty much the same excpet on that side...also occasionally the cramping can come out of no where in my sides or even legs if I streach in bed...and sometimes when it hits it hits hard and I have to either press back against it hard or try to strech with it hard to get it let go...it hits hard enought to double me over at times...I was taking some other drugs for high closteral but that is under control now and no longer take them and that has helped some...actually I eat a lot of oat meal which really seemed to fix that, my last blood work it was at 134...I was extercising regually but these cramp kind so pains have all but stopped that...I still take walks everyday, and will try to go back to working out right after the holidays are over...so that is the main issues are the sudden and painful muscle cramps...any ideas what I can do about them or what to talk to my dotor about...thank you...Rick Eriksen

You might ask your doctor to consider low potassium levels.  Not getting enough calcium and magnesium can cause muscle cramps.  Low levels of some b vitamins can cause muscle spasms as can low thyroid.

I think you should get another opinion! the meds. are causing the cramps! Call your pharmacy and ask the pharmacist which drug or drugs are causing the cramps. Don't stop the drug or drugs until you speak to the doctor
