#'S ARE ALL UP & DOWN ON SPIROMETRY TEST

I HAVE VISION ISSUES AND IT JUS WORKS FOR ME TYPE IN CAPS....SORRY.
I HAVE EMPHYSEMA AND HAD A SPIROMETRY BREATHING TEST DONE MY FIRST ONE,  WITHOUT A NOSE CLIP. THE NUMBERS ARE    52%   71%   72%   75 %  83% .  NOTES SAY MILD AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION AND THE OTHER SAYS OBSTRUCTION MAY BE PHYSIOLOGICAL VARIANT.  I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE #'S MEAN AND THE NOTES. IS IT SAYING THAT I AM MAKING THE #'S COME OUTIN A CERTAIN WAY OR THAT THE TEST WAS DONE WRONG WITHOUT A NOSE CLAMP.  DO THE TEST SCORES MEAN NOTHING OR WHAT... I AM SO CONFUSED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INPUT ON THIS.

NOT BE RUDE BUT I WAS WONDERING A FEW THINGS HERE.

1) SHOULD THE TEST BE MORE ACCURATE IF DONE CORRECTLY?

2) WHAT DOES PHYSIOLOGICAL VARIENT MEAN.

I KNOW WHAT THE TEST IS FOR , MY HUSBAND IS AT END STAGES OF EMPHYSEMA. HE HAS ONLY 15 % FEV.

I DONT WANT TO BE RUDE BUT I WAS JUS WONDERING

Hello,
Spirometry is pulmonary function testing which measures the amount of air taken in and exhaled as a function of time. The percentage of FEV1 can help in defining severity. A value is usually considered abnormal if it is less than 80% of your predicted value. This test can give important information on whether or not medications are working, or if your disease is worsening though it has some pitfalls. The normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. It is best to talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test results. Write to me again on how you are doing.
Best luck and regards!
