Should I be worried?

Hello, I'm 17 years old and have been having issues with my tonsils, primarily the left tonsil. It have a pus pocket on it and it became swollen, I ended up going to an ENT and he said that he isn't concerned about it. I'm pretty sure I have health anxiety because all I have been doing for weeks is constant worrying, and I have recently been poking and prodding at my neck and making it become physically sore because I am concerned I will find a lump or something. The areas I have really been poking at is right in between the jugular, like right to the left of it. I started to get the sensation of something stuck in my throat and it has been going on for like half a day now and the sensation can move around. I was wondering if this was just a symptom of me constantly poking and prodding at my neck. Thank you!

Hello~That "lump" feelling in your throat can be due to stress/anxiety, they call it "hysterical lump". Your health anxiety could be adding to the strange feeling as can the constant prodding.

Thank you! I have left my throat alone for a little while and the feeling has stopped being persistent, the only time I really get it now is when I have high anxiety it seems, and as far as my tonsils go I went back to my ENT on Monday and he said he wants them out. So that will be fun.

Hello!

You mentioned you have a puss pocket along with a lump in the throat sensation. This could also be tonsil stones. These are calcium deposits in the tonsils that appear as white puss. If extracted, these stones are found to be hard and they have a bad smell. It is no wonder they are a common cause of bad breath. You can read more about them here: http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/tonsil-stones-tonsilloliths-treatment-and-prevention#1.

Hope you feel better soon!
