I have had a sore throat mainly on the left side for about 8 weeks now. It started out as a cough and sore throat, at two weeks I went to the Doctor, and they took a swab for strep throat infection which came back clear. So the doctor just said it was a viral thing and would go away in time. Anyway, the cough went away shortly after this but the sore throat has persisted.
I went back to the doctor at about 6 weeks, told him that though the cough was gone I still had a sore throat. He re-examined me and said in his opinion was still a viral thing and would go away given a couple more weeks. I specifically queried him about the possibility of throat cancer as I am a former smoker, I have been quit for about three years now. He said he did not believe so, saying that my lymph nodes were not swollen, that I was not having weight loss, finding it hard to swallow or any other symptoms like that.
Well another couple of weeks have gone by and no change, still have a sore throat. I am thinking I will return to the Doctor next week at this stage, but would be interested in any other opinions.
Thanks for your time
