Spot on x-ray

Spot on x-ray

I am suppose to have an ankle fusion this month and I went in for my pre-admissions tests.  Everything was set to go for the following Tuesday but later in the week I received a call from my doctor's nurse. She said that my surgery had been postponed not canceled and that they needed to speak to my family physician and set up a ct scan.  My heart dropped.  She finally told me that something had shown up on my chest x-ray and at the very least I had a hiatal hernia. When I went in for the scan my paper work said that I had a density behind my heart.  My scan was Wednesday this week and I still have not heard anything more.  I am going crazy not knowing. My doctor has not called to explain anything to me before this scan or anything.  What could they have seen?  The nurse and the ct tech seemed quite concerned when they were talking to me.  Which makes me even more afraid because in my dealings with them they kinda stay neutral about most situations.  Usually I hear little to know concern.

Well, I believe if it had been very serious, you would have heard from your doctor right away. Your doctor, however, should have explained some things to you just for your peace of mind, some of them are so used to readings like this, they take it for granted that their patients already understand.

As to the density behind the heart, it could be a couple of things, first, did you take any pills or large vitamins prior, my dad had something show up odd like that once, and it turned out to be the pill that had not dissolved, it could even be a piece of food. Hiatal hernias are near the heart, especially when they have pushed through the diaphragm. I have one. Do you have acid reflux? This is a good sign of one.

As I said, I truly feel if it had been very serious, you would have surely heard by now. Try to relax, and, if you are really scared, call your doc and explain to the receptionist how you feel, maybe he will talk to you then.

Take care and try not to worry too much.
