Started to take medication after one month of diagnois of TB

Hello Doctor,

I'm from India and this question is related to my mother. Exactly a month back, we saw a lump on the left neck of my mom. I took her to an international hospital and after a serious of tests it was concluded that she had TB. She was also having wheezing trouble, so the doctor had prescribed medicines for both. Seems like, the tablet for wheezing was on the first page and the TB was on the backside. But unfortunately i never looked at the back side. SO i thought the one tablet was the TB tablet. So, basically my mom has now never started taking TB antibiotics. its been 25 days now since the doctor has asked to start. Now, i want to know if i can start from tomorrow and take it for a month? or this 25 days of no medication will cause any problems?

Thanks in advance

There are several varieties of tb and they are all very nasty. Treatment typically consists of several antibiotics administered religiously every bday over a very, very long period of time. Compliance with the protocol is critical to placing the infection in remission and preventing the spread of the organism to others. An infection from tb is never completely cured. The best you can hope for is a remission. it is essential to obtain an evaluation from a tb specialist, and get a clear understand of exactly what medications are prescribed, when to take them, when to rener the script and how long to do so. Generally a month is far to short a period to take antibiotics for tb.

I agree with Dr Andrew. Start the medication now, it will take longer to see results, but they will work.

Start her on her TB right now. The delay will not help but it is not the end of the world. Mistakes like this can happen.
