Swollen salivary glands from bulimia

Swollen salivary glands from bulimia

Hi, Im currently in a recovery programme for my bulimia. Although its only been a few weeks, I am doing really well (not binged or purged once) and am determined to keep going. The one thing I am not sure about is that whether my salivary glands (particularly my parotid ones) are swollen and if so, if they will go back to normal or if I would need medical help with them. Anything I have read gives confusing information on them, that some people go back to normal and some people's glands never do.

I have always had that chipmunk appearance that has been described in relation to parotid gland swelling and as ive been bulimic for 19 years, I dont expect a miracle in just a few weeks. It would be lovely to know that a year down the line, my glands might be back to normal.

Would the doctor have any advice on this?  I had them checked before by a doctor but he didnt know my history and only did a cursory check. Would a doctor know what to look for, if I asked one? There is a specialist I know that deals with jaw problems and facial surgery and I was thinking he might be the best person to go to, in a few months.

Is it a case that the glands stay permanently swollen because of all the bingeing from the past or is it different for everyone?

Many thanks

Hello
I was wondering if you found any answer for your question? I am suffering fr the same problem right now and can't find out anything about swollen glands problem - can it really be permanent? If not - how long does it take to go away (once I stop puring and bingeationg)
Thank you
