Talc, Cornstarch or neither

After bathing, I like to sprinkle some body powder in certain areas that tend to retain moisture. On a recent doctor visit, she was shocked to see talc on my skin and said I shouldn't use it as it is implicated in certain cancers. I've hear that talcum powder might contribute to ovarian cancer, but wasn't sure this was one of those "urban myths". After using up the last of my talc, I bought some cornstarch powder, but it doesn't seem as effective in allaying body moisture and it tends to make me itch slightly, especially in the groin area. I even tried going without any powder for a few days, but I have moist skin and tend to get "diaper" rash if I don't powder liberally. Any suggestions on alternatives?

Therre is absolutely no evidence that talc causes cancer when applied externally. Your doctor is a space cadet.  It is inert and if INHALED, can cause fibrosis, and theoretically a malignancy. Wear an inexpensive filtration mask while you apply it and avoid kicking up clouds of dust.

For the "diaper rash" this could be a fungal problem that would need treating with antifungals.

You may also need a moisturising cream/oil or emollient that stops the rash.  Your doctor can prescribe these.  You can purchase an emollient that can be used instead of soap and Emollin spray from the pharmacy without a prescription.  You can also apply Sudocrem.

Wear cotton pants, the manmade and nylon  ones will make you sweat more.
Avoid wearing tights, wear knee highs instead.

You can try using Bicarbonate of Soda.  This absorbs moisture and also any odours.  It can be used for cleaning, baking, for stomach problems.
You may need to shop around to get a large container of it.  You can purchase small quantities from the pharmacy and in the supermarket on the baking section.  Your DIY store may have larger quantities and certainly look on the web.
