Underarm odor and clogged pores

This may sound strange to many but my daughter starting having underarm odor when she was 3 years old. I took her to the pediatrician and was told that it was normal and nothing to be alarmed about. I was told to just start putting deodorant under her arms. I was surprised to here this but did what I was told. My daughter is 14 years old now, very active and battling a sever underarm odor. For a while I thought she was simply not doing a good job with her personal hygiene and would yell at her if I smelled her underarm odor. We just recently had a long talk about her personal hygiene and she told me that she does the best she can but the odor will not go away completely. She said when she gets out the shower, she can still smell the underarm odor and she also have some bumps under her arms. When she squeeze the bumps old deodorant comes out of them with a terrible smell. I literally freaked out and have been searching the Internet for some sort of help. She has an appointment with a dermatologist on Monday and I am hoping the problem can be solved. Currently, she is using vinegar until we make it to the doctor; so far this is working but it is still embarrassing. Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas are welcome.

I'm so glad you got a diagnosis for your daughter. I think once they get the bacteria under control they'll give her a prescription antiperspirant. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. Keep us up to date and take care. Remar

Ok, just wanted to provide an update on my daughter's condition. We went to the dermatologist and she was diagnosed with Hyperhidrosis and Bromhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by abnormally increased perspiration. The abnormal increase of perspiration opened the door for bromhidrosis. Bromhidrosis is an abnormal condition in which the apocrine sweat has an unpleasant odor caused by bacterial decomposition of perspiration on the skin. Basically she had the Hyperhidrosis when she was 3 years old and was misdiagnosed by her pediatrician. Over time this issue set up a camp ground for bacteria. I should have gotten a second opinion. I am grateful to know what the problem is so we can work towards the solution. The doctor has started her off with antibiotics to first kill the bacteria (Bromhidrosis) then we will deal with the Hyperhidrosis condition. I will keep you all posted with the updates.

When I started reading your post I was going to recommend taking her to a Dermatologist. I'm glad to hear you've already made an appointment for her.
They may recommend a prescription antiperspirant.
Let us know what the Dr says. Take care. Remar
