Hi. How are you? I am sorry to hear about what your boyfriend is going through. You know......I have said it before here tonight to a few people but I mean it........if something is THAT BAD and your doctor is either NOT helping you or your own doctor won't even see you when it is THAT IMPORTANT(!) then I would go right up to the EMERGENCY ROOM at another GOOD hospital where I have NOT seen the OTHER doctors!!! Period! I get so sick and tired of some of the doctors and the "attitudes" on them and making people wait, also, who are going through HELL! Forgive me but I am disgusted. You go with your boyfriend to another EMERGENCY ROOM ASAP and don't wait! He NEEDS to find out what is causing his awful pain and GET HELP!!! Let us know how things turn out please. Good luck and take care. Sue
Oops...mea culpa...not your dad, your boyfriend. Guess that is what happens when you answer many questions.
I would let his physician know about the back pain as well, since referred pain can occur from many things, and may possibly be a problem in his spine and not just be about his bed. As I have stated prior, CT's can sometimes miss things, and MRI's can catch more ( I am a perfect example, as a CT missed my stroke, which was found on an MRI). This way the MD can order an MRI of his lower spine area and see what's going on there as well! Have his bowel movements been of normal consistency, or too firm, or seem runny? If he has any type of obstruction in his colon, he may be impacted and have what appears to be loose stool. This loose stool occurs as the fecal matter oozes around the impacted area and out through the anus. Typically it's a small amount but several times daily that it occurs. I hope that you will come back and update us on his diagnosis. Take care and best wishes for your dad!
He is able to urinate and has bowel movements. For. Some odd reason he also noticed less discomfort when waking up out of bed. He has an appointment on the third of next month. He is able to walk and carry on his normal routine just with more caution torwards the area. He also feels bad pain sometimes on his lower back, but thats mostly due to our horrible bed... were still trying to get a new one..
Was that the second visit to the ER?
What about the physician's appointment? Doesn't he have a regular physician,
Is he able to urinate and move his bowels?
He needs a physician's appointment or another trip to the ER IF it is unbearable.
I am assuming they did an CT scan of his abdomen. Either he should have a different CT scan done with contrast of course and/or a scope done. It is possible the area causing the problem wasn't scanned in the first place. Sounds like the problem is coming from the pelvic region.
In any case, he needs a primary physician arranging all this and following all this.
We did go to the er and they did a ct scan with contrast. They also did blood work... and urine work........ everything came back normal.....
I would definitely suggest that your friend sees a doctor, it sounds like it could be a blockage of some sort, either by a benign tumor or some other intestinal issue.
He needs to see a physician ASAP.
No physician's visit or second ER visit?
Update........... He is still having the unusual discomfort. He has become somewhat constipated still able to use the restroom. He sayshe can feel something between his lower right abdomen and pelvic aarea when he bends..... no fever...no vomiting...
Almostgolden1........keep us posted. Hopefully this has resolved.
A medical records clerk could certainly read whether the report said there was lots of stool in the colon. You don't need to be a medical expert to read!
Difficult to say what this is and I definitely wouldn't recommend getting any reports as these reports aren't not easy to interpret for a layperson.
I would have him return to the ER or call the physician's office to see if there are any cancellations in order to get him in asap.
Just because he is still able to move his bowels does not mean he is not constipated. Stool could still be very hard inside of the colon and possibly be causing his discomfort. I would check with the medical records department for the typed report of his abdominal CT and see if they have it written that he is full of feces. If that is the case, laxatives or enemas could help, but the best thing to do would be purchasing a very cheap bottle of citrate of magnesia. It will cleanse him but be aware that the cramping will increase while it's working. If that is not the case, even though it didn't show on CT, he could have his appendix being irritated. Sometimes they can't determine that by blood work alone, unless it has ruptured. Ct's also have been known to miss some things. I would keep pressuring the receptionists at his physicians office to get him seen in follow up from the ER. If it persists or worsens you could always take him back to the ER for another look at him. In the interim, if it is a muscle pull, moist heat should help it to feel somewhat better. Good luck!
