Water filtration for shower. KDF-55 vs Vitamin C

Ok, I need help form a qualified dermatologist or nutritionalist. My apartment water is horrible, smells like chlorine, I can see white flakes floating around in it.

I have been researching shower heads to start with. Some sites say Vitamin C is better for a shower head filter to remove 100% of chlorine. Some sites say KDF-55 Media is effective in removing 90% of chlorine and 80% of other harmul heavy metals.

However, I have found some website that say KDF-55 is actually a harmful substance that will leach harmful chemicals back onto your skin.
Likewise, I have found sites that say Chlorine + Vitamin C = Acid.

Can someone please explain the science behind these shower heads?
