Weakness/Fatigue- help for a 22 year old student!

I have been experiencing on and off symptoms for a year now. And i have no idea what it could be. I am an otherwise healthy female 22 year old college student, 122 pounds, 5'5''. These symptoms have been gradually getting more frequent/worse in the last few months. Let me list them in the order of frequency.

-Weakness: Sometimes I feel like everything in me is depleted. One day at work about three weeks ago, I could hardly get up from my chair. I was shaking and felt feeble. I felt this way even after I ate lunch, in fact this time, it felt even worse. More recently this happened to me again, yet again after I ate. I went outside and I felt dizzy/weak/nauseous (not the kind of nausea from food, more like a sinking stomach kind of feel). I had to sit, then finally go "number 2" in a nearby bathroom. Again today I felt feeble in the morning after I ate breakfast. Though this weak feeling as also occurred independent of meals. hmmm

Fatigue- I often feel tired by the afternoon, sometimes so bad that if I am sitting or lying down my body forces me to nap. This happens even if I get a full 8 hours of sleep (sleeping at normal times too!). I generally always feel sluggish and tired. Exercising does help a little bit, but then 2 pm rolls around and I already feel dead. I hardly have caffeine.

Nausea- More related to the weakness, I have not vomited from it.

Low blood pressure- I get dizzy almost every time I bend over and when I get up from chairs/beds. Sometimes this makes me head feel like the blood vessels are constricting, as if I was doing a headstand for a long time.

I also get muscle soreness, swollen fingers, and this past week while outside (it was very hot and humid) I kept on drinking water and peeing but I never felt hydrated. I tried eating salty foods to counteract my water intake but I just felt so crappy, even as soon as I go outside. The sun is making me feel sick.

I drink plenty of water, get good sleep, eat pretty decent (for a college kid, haha), I drink socially but keep it moderate/minimal. They have tested my iron and every time it may be slightly low or normal. My ANA is negative, but I have one false positive for an RPR test. I got tested again and both the screening and confirmatory syphilis tests were negative. In the past my blood counts are in normal range and my doctors always say my blood pressure is "perfect".  I don't have any food allergies and only have an allergy to a type of antibiotic. I am going crazy and it is disrupting my daily activities! These symptoms aren't constant but they are beginning to come more often, sometimes for a whole day or episodes at least twice a week. Sometimes I think my doctors think I am a hypochondriac or something but I'm really starting to feel lousy. I am going to the doctors soon but I would like to see if anyone online could try and figure out if I should get sometime tested! Sorry for the lengthy post but I figure detail is better than being too vague.

Thank you!
Krystle

Hi benasidhe11,
I am so sorry you are having all these problems. You ruled out some of the things I was thinking of which were low blood pressure or iron deficiency anemia. Also, the ANA kind of rules out Lupus. Although if you had a face rash then I would say to get more things done. There is a muscular type of Lupus called discoid lupus that you would have to get a skin biopsy for but if you don't have a rash then I don't think so. Although, you could be low in B12 . The only other things I can think of so far is have you had a fasting blood sugar done? Also, maybe it is a virus like Ebstein Barr, which can cause chronic fatigue? You should probably have a viral panel done as well has HIV just to rule that out. I'm not saying you have any of these but we are trying to figure out what is going on.Have you had your immune system checked. They can do an immunogloubin blood level to see if anything is off there. Do you have any other symptoms like swollen lymph nodes, low grade fever? Try not to feel like the doctors see you as a "hypochrondriac". I know it is hard. I started getting sick when I was 23 and it took the doctors 8 years to diagnose me with a migraine variant because I didn't have migraine headaches or auras just throwing up at night and stomach pain. So hang in there and keep trying to get diagnosed. The body doesn't follow the doctors rules all the time! Keep us posted if you get any more info or have any thing else you remember you would like to add.

Hi beansidhe11,
I'm glad you got a regular doctor. I have had that happen too and they keep retesting and don't believe you and then they never get a diagnosis. At least when someone follows you they know you and can see your symptoms and so forth. I have had anxiety too over a back pain problem that has been there for two years now. It is "just" myofascial pain syndrome but it has taken away all the things I like to do and I"m trying hard to get my life back without reinjuring myself. it is hard. The thing that helped me for anxiety was biofeedback (breathing exercises) and a couple of CD;s I listen to twice a day. One of them is good his name is: Dr. Emmett Miller, MD. his website is drmiller.com. and Dr. Martin Rossman and it is a guided imagery CD. It helps you relax. But if you have severe anxiety you may need meds but these help too. I hope they find out what is going on. Try to think and/or write positive thoughts a couple times a day like I am a good person, I am loved you know affirmations, it is good to bring your mind into a positve place. take care,

Thanks for replying so fast! I actually go into the doctor's today which was quite impressive, they were able to schedule me 20 minutes after I called. I have had HIV tests done, negative, as well has other sexually transmitted diseases. My lymph nodes are fine, no fever, and no rashes. The doctors today just did a basic basic blood tests just to see if I am dehydrated or something and they are doing a urinalysis. They talked to m about my anxiety, but I do tell them that it is situational anxiety (like a friend stressing me out or being on a plane), so that MAY be a possibility, but I haven't been feeling so anxious that I would nearly faint!  They were quite concerned though. My blood pressure was fine. Basically I need to hear back about the blood tests and they want me to see the same doctor regularly, and I will be seeing her really soon. That was part of my problem of going to the doctor and having someone different every time and not being able to track my symptoms well. Ahhhh! Thanks for the support though and I hope it won't take me as long as it took you to find relief.
