Wellbutrin as quit smoking aid?

Can Wellbutrin, a form of bupropion, be used as an aid to quit smoking? I have read on many medical sites online that Zyban, another form of bupropion, is what aids in quitting smoking and that Wellbutrin is for treating depression. Recently, my boyfriend, who is in the Navy, was prescribed Wellbutrin to help him quit. I am a little concerned that the naval doctor does not know what he is doing. Am I worrying for no reason? Thanks.

Wellbutrin definitely helps people quit smoking--I took it myself, and it was the *only* thing that got me to finally quit smoking.

The one thing I discovered, was that every time I would quit smoking then go off the Wellbutrin, I would start smoking again.  This time, I decided to stay on the Wellbutrin, and I haven't gone back to smoking since.

Warning: It takes a few weeks to kick in, so it won't start right away.  I would also recommend taking it in the morning, because it can cause a little restlessness sometimes.
