What are high triglycerides and are they dangerous to health?

A blood test done a while back showed I had high triglycerides. I was prescribed medication but I refused to take them because I wanted to drink on the weekend and with that medication I couldn't so I started taking supplements instead but what are high triglycerides are they dangerous? Can they be fatal?

It might benefit you to google it.  Basically it is part of cholesterol test.  Nope-------- you can't take the meds they prescribe for that because of your drinking.  Cholesterol meds require liver screening to make sure your liver can handle the metabolization of the drugs and I guess as a heavy drinker, you might not be a canidate.  Something to discuss with your doctor.  But hon, if you are saying "do triglicerides (triglycerides) kill me?  Cause they gave me meds to take but I didn't want to because I'd rather drink . . ."  well, that is a bit of a problem.  Choosing alcohol over your health---------- problem.

Please talk to your doctor about this. They may have some suggestions for you.

a 750 ml bottle of wine is not heavy drinking. That is a little over 3 glasses so i can't see it being heavy. Glass of wine is 7 ounces in 750 ml there are 25 ounces so it's only 3 and a half drinks, I can't see how that being heavy.

Alcohol is interfering with your life. You are consumed with thoughts of it's effects on you to the point of obsessively posting about it here and elsewhere, having nightmares about death, and refusing to take prescribed medication for your health (yes, high trigylcerides can become fatal...hence the need for medication) because you don't want to give up drinking three bottles of wine per week.
One cause of high triglycerides is excessive alcohol consumption.

and my doctor has no idea I drink so she did not do a liver test before prescribing me the Trilipix.

how can they become fatal? high triglycerides are fats in the blood yes they can be caused by high alcohol consumption but the biggest cause is usually an unhealthy diet or obesity.

I started taking supplements for lowering triglycerides instead of presecribed medication. I think supplements are just as good and they can be mixed with alcohol because they are not over the counter drugs.

and probably any doctor who hears a patient tell them they drink 3 bottles of wine in 3 days every weekend would probably tell them to cut down. Doctor's recommend a glass a night for  women and 2 for men. 3 bottles a weekend I exceed both the daily healthy limit and the weekly in just 3 days so any sensible doctor would tell me what I do is not ok.

How can they become fatal? They are fats in your blood. Fat sticks. It sticks to the insides of your veins and arteries and makes your heart work harder, putting it and your kidneys and liver at risk for disease and failure. Failure generally is death or something with permanent dibilitations. What does it matter if alcohol is or is not factoring into your triglyceride levels? Your main focus should be working with your doctor to manage your health, not hide your drinking habit and making your own "cure" with over the counter supplements.

This is what I think.  You are not ready to accept the truth.  That is painful for others to see. Deep down I think you know and that is why you ask these questions over and over.  But the part that is the drinker tries to fight it and resists it at every turn.  

Alcholism (alcoholism) gets Harder to treat as time goes on.  Usually things start out okay for the habitual over drinker and then they progress to more and more problems in someone's life.  I think the hope here is to get through to you now before it is harder.

But---------- reality is that no one can make you see what you don't want to see.  So you will have to live your life and let it play out as it will.  I do wish you the very best because I think you are in for some very rough times ahead.  Peace.

I am not hiding my drinking problem. I do not hide the alcohol I don't care who sees me drinking it so therefore I am not hiding anything. I just never told my doctor about my alcohol comsumption.

but what about drinking 3 bottles in a weekend and nothing during the week I mean I assume I give the liver some time to recover drinking nothing for 4-5 days straight after the weekend drinking. To be honest I do not care about alcoholism whether I am an alcoholic or not it is irrelelavnt to me the only thing I want to know is how much am I damageing my liver with the 156 bottles of wine a year. I did not come here for people to call me an alcoholic and say I need AA and whatever kind of crap all i came here for is to get the answers about how much damage I am doing to my organs with my intake. Anything else to me is not important.

I also want to know whether there will be any symptoms with liver damage I mean will there be symptoms will my liver let me know it's in trouble will there be pain or sickness or some kind of warning sign?

P.S. my grandfather and mother get me the alcohol and they also give me money so I can have it so they do not think I drink too much they think there is nothing wrong with what i am doing otherwise they would not provide me with this.

Lasharon--Are you using alcohol as a medical treatment for your psychological issues?

Do your grandparents buy it for you because it is the only "medicine" you'll take?
