What could be wrong?

I have a 4 year old that will be five in december. He is small framed and weighs 31 lb. I took him to the doctor today over a cold and she started asking me about his tan.My son has always had this tan for as long as I can remember. Both me and his father are white and I am 5ft 5in and his dad is 6ft 4in. Now she is wanting me to take him to the hospital on monday to have test run on him. What could be wrong? To give you a little more medical on him he has club foot (both feet) and Asperger's. Could you please try to help me??

Yes his liver has been checked and the tests came back fine. Asperger's is a forum of Autism. At this time he is not on any type of medicine for this disorder. I have been researching a little more on my son's father's side of the family and I have found out some things about them that could be the reason why my son is the way he is as far as the tan skin and the small build. I will post my findings when I have gotten more information. I would like to thank you for responding to my post. I think it is nice to see that people that don't even know me or my son can be so concerned.

I UNDERSTAND WHY THE DR IS CONCERNED WITH THE SKIN, IT IS THE MIRROR OF A LOT OF THINGS, LIVER BEING ONE. HAS HIS LIVER BEEN CHECKED. ALSO IF HE IS ON MEDICINE FOR THE ASPERGERS, I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT IS, IT MAY BE A SIDE-EFFECT.

I am not sure what the deal is with the tan. I am pale and so is is his father. The doctor said that she had seen the same thing in another child and it turned out to be a rare disorder of some kind. She is also looking at the fact that he will be 5 in December and he is wearing clothes that are 24 months in the waist and 3T length (pants) and is shirts just because of his arms are 4T. He is just so small for his age and it concerns me a lot.

Why is the doctor worried about his tan skin?  I thought a tan meant that he most likely had a reasonably healthy exposure to the sun and that could mean his vitamin D levels could possibly be where they're supposed to be.  I'm confused about why this is a problem?  Shouldn't she be looking at his vitamin and mineral levels, since that involves his immune system?  What's the problem with the tan skin?  Doesn't make sense to me.
