Which back muscle did I tear (yes I will go to the doctor in a few days)?

Hi. Disclaimer: I will go to a doctor if pain continues, just asking to get out of internet self-diagnosis wormhole, cause I cannot find matching symptoms.

I tore or sprained something in my back rock climbing; it's on the left side, upper/mid back, kind of between spine and scapula. Now there are only a few muscles there, unfortunately going by the online symptom lists, none seem to match.
It often hurts to move in general, but two particular things that hurt a lot are:
1) Leaning on a straight arm (e.g. I was getting into a back seat of a car, leaned down on the seat sideways and the pain spot exploded so bad I almost collapsed into the car; leaning hard on my elbows on the desk also hurts).
2) Sneezing and deep breath into the chest. Again when the pain is at its worst I actually cannot sneeze because at the top of the motion it hurts so much that my body just kind of aborts the sneeze. Deep breaths into the chest only hurt a bit, but still noticeably.

Many of the online-checklist moves (arms up, to the side, across body, across and behind the back, pulling on things, etc.) do not produce much, or any, pain.

The pain is in one small place, usually with some constant level, plus extra pain as per the above. Motion is not restricted and there are no clicks/etc. or visible changes on the back.

Which one is it? :(

Sounds painful!  I'm not sure what you pulled or tore, but am glad you are going to the doctor.  Often with backs, pain is referred in that you are injured in one place and feel pain in another.  Take ibuprofen if you can for pain relief.  Heating pad or ice, either can also help.  Come back and tell us what the doctor says, okay?
