White blood cells

Question

I was told my urine test showed a higher than normal white blood cell count.  What does this mean?

Thanks, that's what the nurse told me on my lab test results.  She asked if I felt like I had an infection.  My Dr. is so busy, I just decided to have my blood work done this year, but I think I better make an appointment just to be on the safe side.  My cholestral was a little high also, so maybe if I'm lucky I can still get in this month.

Your comment made me think of something. When you said to ask your doctor, they are the ones who truly know. You are right, great advice! But the sad part is, most of us are on here asking questions because our so-called doctors, are too busy to take the time to research, do thorough testing and EXPLAIN things to us clearly and patiently! Most are very vague about results and what they mean, just throw you a pill and off we go. Sad! Are there any passionate & concerned doctors left? Or has all of them got use to there job and are burnt out? If I was a doctor, I would really make a difference. I would have such a personal approach. A lot of these doctors have become conditioned & lazy

I never heard of testing for white blood cells in urine. But I do know for a fact that elevated white blood cell count in blood means an infection could be present in your body. White bloods increase to fight off infection.

Maybe you should ask the doctor who performed the test what that means. They are the only ones who can truly know the answer.

It could be any number of things such as an increased production of white blood cells to fight an infection, a reaction to a drug that enhances white blood cell production, a disease of bone marrow, causing abnormally high production of white blood cells or an immune system disorder that increases white blood cell production. What did your doctor say?
