Worried after slightly long term illness

Worried after slightly long term illness

I was diagnosed with a parasite infection about 2 weeks ago. Prior to that, I had been feeling very ill and once I started antibiotic treatment my stomach and general health felt much better.

Last week I realized my tongue was peeling, and upon further examination I saw white patches at the back of my mouth. After another trip to the doctor, I was told I had oral thrush and was given a liquid antifungal to treat that. The doctor I saw seemed a little puzzled as to why I would have developed it in the first place. I was swabbed for thrush as well as strep throat.

Today I got recalled to the office with the results, and to my surprise I have strep throat as well as thrush. I asked my doctor why it would be I got both of them, and he said it was uncommon. He proposed that because of the parasitic infection my immune system may have been reduced, which would allow for the thrush and strep throat to thrive.

He suggested that I visit my family doctor (all of this was done through a walk-in clinic) and have a general physical done. I asked if there was anything specific I should be looking for, but he said no, just to make sure that my blood sugar levels etc. were normal.

I walked out feeling more than a little worried. I'm in my early 20's and have never had bad health before, yet I've had 3 things wrong with me that may be inter-related. I take care of myself and to my knowledge was not feeling the least bit ill until I caught this parasite. I'm a little scared that there may be more wrong with me...but the doctor I saw today both calmed me down and worried me more. On the one hand, he gave me a little scenario that could easily explain the whole thing. On the other, he made it seem as though what was happening is not normal.

I guess I'm just looking for a bit of advice in this situation. Is there anything I should be asking at this point, or do I just finish my treatments and see how I feel? And does any of this have the hallmark of a bigger problem?

Thanks for listening.
