I was reading some of these posts.. I have had C diff 4 times... The last time.. I cut out all sugar, and any whole wheat.  I lived on.. this sounds so bizarre.  Water, spaghetti, , white toast with peanut butter and bananas.  I took vanco for 4 months straight, and florastar up to 3 times a day.  Stress also affects the disease.  Also REST,REST,REST.  It really does wear down your immune system.  I usually get a sign that Im getting it again.  I get a nerve ache pain in my right hip area, more gassy TMI, sorry. and it smells really bad, and my stomache gurgles really bad.  Ive been free since this past november.   You can have a fresh start.  Also stay away from caffeine, no chocolate, or candys.  NO raw fruits or veggies.  Bland diet, until symptoms are gone.  This is the only way I kicked it.  I was so deathly sick for 9 months.  Flagy made me so so sick... Vanco was my only savior.  Good luck to all that are suffering.  I know your pain..  Sincerely, okiegal

Speaking as an RN, I have seen C-diff infections so many times in, and it is difficult to treat and reoccurences are very common.

I would recommend consulting an ID (Infectious Disease) Specialist to manage this.

Thank you for your responses.  It is so frustrating because it seems it should be a controllable situation but keeps reoccurring.

It is possible for C-Diff to become chronic and it is indeed very hard to eliminate in some cases.  If your mother is not improving you would want her to see either a gastroenterologist and/or an infectious disease specialist.

This is going to sound really bizarre but here goes..... sometimes it is necessary to do a fecal transplant to eliminate C-Diff.  This drastic measure is occasionally the only way to restore normal bacterial balance to the colon.

My condolences on the loss of your father.  I hope you are able to find a doctor who is willing to do what is necessary to restore your mothers health.  This condition may be common but it is NOT always easy to treat.

I am a practicing RN on a medical floor and we see cdif VERY frequently and it is never hard to treat so I'm suprised to hear your parents have had so much trouble with it. You should not need a specialist. Any Dr in your local area should be able to help you. I do not know your parents health history which could be affecting their ability to fight off cdiff and any professional that answers your question will tell you they need more info on your parents health to answer you question appropriately. We just don't have enough info. to be more helpful.
