Unless you are using medical marijuana with a real prescription, don't use the marijuana.  The illegal stuff has the potential of having other types of chemicals added to it.  The illegal stuff is definitely far more dangerous, because it usually has higher THC than the legal medical marijuana.  It's the THC that causes the user to get high.  It can also trigger psychosis in certain individuals who might already have a predisposition to psychotic forms of mental illnesses such Schizophrenia or Schizo-effective disorder or even the psychosis associated with bipolar.  And, those are just the ones I know about.  Since you say you already have a chemical imbalance, even the legal medical marijuana is putting you at higher risk than if you didn't use it.  I've watched non-biased documentaries that say that once that mental illness is triggered it seems that the individual always has that mental illness.  Having such a permanent issue is just not worth the risk of using the illegal forms of marijuana that have the higher THC.

Also, don't get the medical marijuana through dishonest or deceptive means of getting a doctor to sign the documents.  This is because you have to also think of the people who truly do need the medical marijuana, because they already have a very difficult time obtaining their medical marijuana through legal means without worrying about legal distribution centers getting shut down and without the risk of being arrested.

So, basically, unless you are a legitimate medical marijuana user, it is simply far too risky for you personally to even think about lighting up a joint.

I'm not saying that legal pharmaceuticals are superior, so anyone who thinks I'm being a jerk, please refrain from jumping down my throat.  I do have a balanced viewpoint on this matter, and I do have discussions from time to time with someone elsewhere who is a legitimate medical marijuana user.  So, it isn't necessary to get mad at me for saying not to misuse marijuana.  The misuse is just as dangerous as the misuse of any drug, whether it is legal or illegal.  Remember, MOST alcohol is actually legal, but it's the misuse of the stuff that is the problem.  It is mainly the misuse of alcohol that is illegal, and this includes making it available to people who are underage or knowingly giving a drunk more booze.

You are already dealing with a chemical imbalance in your brain, you cannot afford to risk misusing marijuana.  Some will say that it's safe or that it's safer than the effects of other illegal drugs.  So, because bleach is less toxic than cyanide, does that make it safe to drink?  Remember, the THC is usually considerably higher in the illegal stuff, so it isn't silly to refer to the illegal stuff as bleach or cyanide.  The legal stuff has just enough THC to be helpful to the people who truly need it and insufficient THC to satisfy the people who are just straight up pot heads.

Again, please reserve the medical marijuana for the people who truly do need it, such as folks who have terminal illnesses or other serious illnesses who can't be helped in any other manner.  Even the medical grade is not worth it to you.

If you're dealing with bipolar or severe depression, the crash after the high is only going to make you feel worse.  Don't do it.  If it's not bipolar, you may be able to address depression without pharmaceuticals.  If it's bipolar, you have to keep trying pharmaceuticals until you find the right balance for you.  Lithium is actually a salt.  It's one of the few pharmaceuticals that is more natural than not.
