chest pain when coughing or sneezing and breathing deep

Im a healthy 43 yo male.  Ive played soccer for 20 yrs of my life.  About 14 months ago I started noticing pain in my chest when after soccer games.  Within 3-4 weeks the pains increased to the point of very intense pain, especially when breathing deep(er), coughing and sneezing.  In fact the latter 2 was so intense momentarily that I started taking advil to manage the pain on a daily basis.  I saw the doc, had xrays, bloodwork, and a Cat scan of my chest. I also had a heart stress test as well as a halter monitor for 24 hours to check out my heart.  Everything came back normal. He determined that the pain was muscular-skeletal and he thought it would go away over time but prescribed me ibuprofen.  I took Advil/Ubuprofen for about 8 months and only recently the pain is subsiding enough that Im doing my best not to take it, however I cant do much without taking ibuprofen for the pain, so I haven't done any exercise in all this time.

As far as I know, I have no spinal injuries or disc problems, nor do I have any joint issues.  The pain seems to be up by back and around my sides, sometimes more on one side than the other, even within 24 hours.  There were moments at night when I'd move in the beginning the pain was so intense I considered going to the ER but did not.
I dont have valley fever ( I lived in AZ however).  The blood tests showed non-specific inflamation (inflammation) but that was all that showed up.

Can anyone tell me what to do or what to check out next?  My life is on hold and I need to get well so I can
hopefully live normally again.  This has lasted far too long.
