chest pains and sinus infection

I originally posted a question on Lung Cancer forum around the 4th. I've been having chest pains for some time and I thought it might me lung cancer. I don't smoke, but I have been in a basement  for 5 yrs.(I am trying to get out) that is damp and there has been black mold found here.
But I am not sure of the cancer part, so I  thought I would repost here.
I have had CFS and Fibro for a long time and it is hard, often to distinguish non related symptoms from the many I do have with the existing illnesses
But back in late summer of 2012, I began to have chest pains. It just felt like something was clinching my heart, I'd wait and it would leave after a short time. The episodes were rare and short lived, so I brushed it off as maybe the Fibro. around late Feb, the pain began to occur more often and last longer, then it began to spread into my sternum and right side. The pain could last for hours. I contact my Doctor and she had my heart checked on the 8th, but I haven't heard from them. I called, the secretary curtly told me that the Doctor got *something* in and if she had time she'd look at them and call me. I never heard from them. The pain has gotten terrible at times. I take pain meds for the Fibro and it doesn't even help this chest pain.
Even though they checked my heart, I think it's my lungs. I have acute chronic sinus infection that the last does of antibiotics didn't even faze.
I think the infection may have spread into my chest. Last night, I began to get this *graveling* feeling under my sternum. There was a *gurgling* feeling in my throat and it restricted for short periods of time. I don't cough much or even sneeze a lot. The last few days the pain in my chest seems to have become more *defined*. If you know what an infection feels like, that what I am feeling. But I am not sure, I'm not a doctor.
I have a weekend to wait now to find the results. If they don't find anything with my heart then I want my lungs and chest area checked. The hurting is worse and I feel sick.
I am use to feeling sick all the time with the CFS but this only makes it worse. I've been having pain in my joints too, that the pain meds aren't controlling. I thought it was the Fibro at first, but I am not sure.
The chest pain has spread into my shoulders and my upper left arm.
Heat and Vapor rub make it worse.
The chronic sinus infection has been bad. For a couple of days I was blowing my nose and the mucus was stick neon yellow. Now that it's mostly clear again, the mucus is stick or gel like. There is a little blood, now.
I thought the sinus infect may have spread into my chest. Is that possible?
Dumb question, but could it cause Lung Cancer if it's not treated? I'm more worried about my lungs than my heart, really.
I have short live low grade fevers. I get fevers that only last for a few minutes. I may get a facial rash for a short time. I've been having hot flashes and sudden chills, but only recently. I get sore throats for awhile.
I have headaches along with the fever, but they are mild and only last a few minutes.
I know my face swell a lot in the last few months.
Also, just a couple months before the first onset of the chest pain, I began to twitch and jerk. That was very mild at first, but it seems to have advanced with the chest pains. I'll reach for my mouse and my hand will suddenly jerk backward.
What ever it is, it's spreading slowly. It makes it hard to function and I have an entire weekend now because nobody was in a hurry to give me the results of my test.
I thought maybe somebody might have a suggestion of what it sounds like. I got the weekend ahead of me and this is getting worse. No reason to go to the EMERGENCY room, it would take the entire weekend to get in.

It does sound that you have a respiratory infection and possibly suffer with bronchial problems even asthma.  And yes, bacterial sinus infections can spread down the respiratory tract down to the lungs.

I believe that you are having these medical problems due to the black mould and dampness where you are living - in the basement.

Black mould produces spores that we cannot see, but are inhaled in as we breath.  These spores are then breathed deep down into the lungs and can cause havoc in the body and you are also suffering from other symptoms.

You need to remove all the black mould and treat the area.  If there is no window in the basement to help with ventilation, perhaps you could leave the door open.  If there is an extractor fan, then use that.  Until you get rid of the offending cause (the black mould) you will continue getting respiratory problems regardless of any medications you are given.

You can also purchase dehumidifiers to get rid of too much dampness in the room.  But the cause of the dampness needs to be identified and treated (slow leaking pipe for example).  Don't throw any clothes on the floor next to a wall, this holds the dampness in.

Of course, the best solution for you is to move out to a more safe environment to live in.  What you are suffering from in effect is called Sick Building Syndrome.

Hope you get better soon.

Best wishes.

Sinus infection could turn into your lungs. Pain could be problems from infection in the lungs. Gurgling could be some asthma or infection, especially feeling constricted. You said the antibiotics didn't cure sinus infection this time and you have some fever. I would go back and get my breathing checked and throat. Tell him the antibiotics didn't clear you up, and you may need more. It has happened to me and I needed repeat antibiotics. Hope you do feel better soon.

Thanks for your replies. I had an echo test and an x-ray of my chest and head. The chest pain, they are focusing on my heart. The took blood work. The amount of discomfort was unbearable for the last couple of days. There was a sickly feeling along with it.
*I was peeved because the work was done on a Monday and they said they should be able to get the results to the doctor on Tues. I waited. Nobody called, so I called Fri morning. The receptionist coldly said that the dcotor got something in and if she had time, she'd look at it * I didn't get that call. I called back that evening about 6 after hours because the doctor usually stays late to catch up on her work. The answering machine said they closed at noon Fri! I've got the weekend to wait. I don't feel so bad right now because I've been taking the pseudoephredrine to keep the sinuses clear, I have to take the full dose daily which makes my heart rate and blood pressure sky rocket. I have to take muscle relaxants to counter-act that.
I can't get the mucus to cough up. I don't cough often and when I do it's a dry cough. But I can feel the mucus in my throat when I do cough, it just won't come up. Before I started taking the decongestants again, my mucus had become neon yellow and sticky looking. Now it's clear again with  a little yellow, brown or blood mixed in. The color is usually solid chunks. The mucus has a sticky or gel like look to it.
The chest pain seems to be worse by the cold or applying heat or even vapor rub and my daily activity and exercise, even sitting for long periods of time will bring it on.
This is weird (and disgusting) but If I don't take the decongestant, I can feel the mucus in the back of my throat, it feels like it is just hanging just over my throat, nearly blocking my airway.
I woke up one time with the mucus in my throat so thick that that I could not breath and my nasal passages were blocked as well. I was able to force it up enough to get some air and I used a strong sinus spray a couple time to open the nasals, at least part way. I drank some water to flush the remaining mucus down, It didn't woke so I drank a soda and that did it.
The chest pain tends to move around. it can be on the left side only or in the sternum or the right side. It can be in the shoulder or move into my left arm. It does tend to often settle in the sternum area when I am at rest. It's painful to the touch and sometimes has a *graveling* sensation to it.
If this means anything. If I sleep with my arms above my head, the become numb (they fall asleep) or start hurting. Sometimes laying on my left side does seem to make it worse. I have to lay very still flat on my back.
If it hurts long enough, it causes pain in my stomach.
It also make my sin around the hurting area sore and tender to the touch.
The *twitching* seems to occur more when I am at rest. The longer I am sitting or laying down, the worse it becomes. When the pain just starts up, it does seem to start in my left chest over my heart or in mt left breast,
Well, I think I have given you about all the info. Hope somebody has some answer. Thanks so much!

Sure sounds like asthma to me. Hope the doctor gets back to you, that wasn't nice of them. Try tilting your head back, that will help open your airways. You have infection also, strange doc didn't give you antibiotics. Description of mucus should have gotten you a prescription.

Thought I should say that the results all came back good except my thyroid is a little low. Don't think the thyroid is causing the chest paints though.

That is good news that all the tests came back good, except for the thyroid.  I presume you will be started on thyroxine medication?

I wouldn't have thought the the low thyroid would cause chest pains.
This is likely be to be congestion, asthma, muscle problems.  What did your doctor reckon it was? (apart from the aggravation on your respiratory tract form living in a damp moulding basement)

I don't think it's they thyroid, myself. I am suppose to see my Gastroenterologist, Fibromyalgia specialist and Gynecologist all in May. Hopefully, something will be figured out. Thanks for the support and advice, I really do appreciate it!

Hope you get all OK, best wishes.

I know how you're feeling, I know your pain it was the same way with me.  I finally got diagnosed with Lymes Disease.  Find a doctor that specializes in tick born illnesses, your doctor will not help you or treat you properly.  Please I know how you are feeling I am sure you have lyme.  God Bless

I have been having similar problems lately. Not nearly as severe but they are getting there. Apparently I've had chronic sinusitis for quite some time now and it's not going away I mean I don't get the green mucus anymore but I'm still clogged up with a post nasal drip and all my lymph nodes are swollen, I got treated with antibiotics but its not going away and I have had a fever above 100 for over a month now with the headaches and chest pains moving to the right side of my chest, I don't have fibro tho or any of that, but if you find or found out any answers as to what it is keep me updated I don't really have money to see a dr and it would be nice to maybe have an idea what it could be, I hope mine doesn't get as bad as yours
I hope you feel better though and I hope they found out what's wrong!
Good luck

My doctor has advised me to do steam inhalations with Vick or Olbas oil 4 times a day for 10 minutes each time to decongest my sinuses and Eustachian tube that is affecting my ear and making me feel deaf.

I had only been steam inhaling once a day, and couldn't believe it when he said FOUR times a day!

There are decongestant medications available, but I am not able to use those because of hypertension.

Black mold can cause all sorts of sinus issues, mold can be hidden in your house in your car or at work and many times it keeps reoccuring in your bathroom or something other damps place and it is serious . The foremost authority is Shoemaker I was soooo lucky that my medical doctor was very smart and knew his work.
We had a house built just 5 years old faulty plumbing caused a leak in the walls I was so ill no one knew the cause. wheezing general weaknes fatigue , dizziness, weight loss, inflamed sinuses light and sounds sensitivity due to inflammed sinuses putting pressure on the optic nerve  and ear nerve I had a  rash nausea, brain fog a heavy feeling on my chest it was so scary . I HAD
shortness of breath felt like respiratory issues ,  saw two pulmonologist all negative, saw cardiologist nothing , saw immunologist nothing, saw infection disease professor nothing ,had explatory surgery nothing. saw rheumatolgogist  obgyn mammogram pelvis check ultrasound thermagraphy and the list goes on.....Fired my other doctor saw a new doctor he  must of known about  he  about mycotoxins   he put me CHOLESTRAYMINE and gets the  mycotoxins and gets it out of your body. Unfornunatley  most doctor are not educated on this find a enviromental of science doctor or a mycotoxins experts You can spin for years trying to figure out the cause your illness may very well be    Systemic poisonIng  from mold get help
two weeks later a leak was discovered we moved out of the house and my medical doctor told me not to go back to the house. MOLD poisioning is serious and you; have to leave things behind so you do not cross contaminate your new living area  .

A couple of comments, I saw the best sinus doctor and he asked me if I had pets, well we have a cat and she does sleep at the foot of the bed at night, He told me to not let her in our room and that it takes two years for cat dander to disintegrate,  I swept the floors and washed all the bedding I vacuumed out room and got the very best air cleaner Another piece is stop all food your allergic too, seriously get an allergy test bet yet just consider reading the Gut and Psychology book I also have read that outside the states they are curing CFS and I've read of cases, so if your open to researching and traveling, of course that is a personal decision
