could this be night blindness

could this be night blindness

i have rather poor vision (doctor told me it was 3/3 or something like that). I also have a very hard time seeing at night. It is to the point where i don't want to drive any place that is unfamiliar because i cant see. i can't read street signs or judge on coming traffic to well so i always usually end up waiting longer then is probabily needed. i also see halos or clouds around all lights at night. could this problem with seeing at night be night blindness?

Yes, you could be developing night blindness.

I would suggest an evaluation by an opthamologist.

Some people develop night-nearsightedness as they age, and require glasses for night driving. If this is the case, you might be able to compensate.

The halos around the lights can have many etiologies, and also should be evaluated. They are common in patients with elevated glucose levels and you should have a test called an hba1c.

I am a nurse, but going to speak from personal experience.  I have the same thing.  I just am terrified to drive at night.  I had a horrible wreck due to the halo or chandiliers I see around on coming headlights at 19.  I don't know if this is considered night blindness or not, but I can sympathize with you.  Hope to hear from a doc on this one.
