frequent urination in teenager

our 16 yo old pee's constantly throughout the day.. at least 8 times before lunch and probably 20 times a day total.. We had blood work done recently thought he might have diabetes, but test came back OK.. He does not drink any soda but does drink several liters of water a day, but still think this is a excessive amount of urination.. We still take him to his pediatrician because he feel comfortable with her, should we take him too a urologist? maybe he is not sweating enough he hardly ever goes outside.. And the few times he does he sweats profusely..

I've been having the same symptoms of frequent urination and excessive sweating, I still don't know why.

the two things can be linked I think, infections and immunological/neurological problems can give frequent urination and excessive sweating.

the question is also what is the amount of urine? can he hold a full bladder? he should test the amount of urine he really can hold.

another factor is salt, salt is needed for the body to maintain water.

I updated this conversation yesterday but don't know where my post went!

I was saying that there are some physical conditions that can make a person crave for salt all the time, for example Adrenal insufficiency.

There are neurological problems too that give a weak bladder and affect the thermoregulation of the body, I don't know how and if that could be linked with autism.

If he's taking any drugs for it it could be a side-effect.

it will be simple to test him on the amount of urine he can hold to see if it's a problem of the muscles in the bladder.

you may have hit on two things ,neurological , he tests in the autistic spectrum and uses way too much salt, we really have to watch him on the salt... not sure on the amount of urine..

Take him to a good urologist one that will look into it. The biggest issue is the age factor they will not run all test because they assume some issues will not pertain to him. I was 17 when I notice the issues of very frequent urination and burning from the tip of my penis to my rectum during urination or ejaculation. Your son may be a little shy coming forward with those symptoms but it is important.  I am 38 now and have lived with these issues painfully for those years and I wished I had been a little more persistent with the doctors. I have a growth in my urethra at the base of my penis and have had prostate infections since I was 17 and with my family history of cancer I take it very serious. No one is too young and it does start to grow if you are going to have it and I do not think age is a factor but just timing. I do not want to worry you I just want to let you know they will assume the most obvious diagnosis, such as STD or UTI and prescribe antibiotics and of course they will help because they are killing the infection in the prostate and will relieve the symptoms but  not fix the issue. So please take him to a good urologist.
