grease burn

One week ago I spilled hot grease on my leg. Blisters the size of golf balls came up. I used an alo vera cream. I called my Dr and he sent silver sulfadiaz cream.  I applied and covered with gause.  When I removed the gause the blistters burst and left raw skin.  I still applied the cream and It burns like crazy when I try to walk. What can I clean it with and put on it now.

If you go to an art supply store you can purchase foamcore. Cut a piece and make an interior cut to fit over the burned area. Tape the foamcore to the leg. This will keep clothing away from the raw area. The silver sulfadiaz cream is bactricidal. A good idea. Do not try to pull a dry dressing from the burned area. The dressing should be soaked in saline. You can purchase vitamin E, squeeze out the capsules and put the oil on the burn area. You can use this plus the sulfadiaz cream.

Take 1000mg of vitamin C daily and a D3 supplement.

There are two schools of thought with regard to dressing. Dry dressings vs. wet dressing.

A am in favor of a dressing kept wet with saline while the wound is "raw". The reason is, if you use a dry dressing, when you change the dressing you will pull off the skin and re-open the wound. Once the injury has stabilized, a dry sterile dressing is fine.

The "changing"essing is controversial. During WW one, the protocol was to change dressings once of twice daily. Then they did a mortality study and found patients on whom the dressings were left along did much better and significantly lower mortality..
